Some promising spring stayers have been nominated for the Colin Stephen Quality 2013, the handicap clash to run as part of the Rosehill racing action on Saturday.
A total of 14 runners are currently entered for the $125,000 Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality Handicap (2400m) this year, the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival event a nice lead-up to the $400,000 Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick Saturday week.
The Metropolitan betting is currently led by Chris Waller’s Group 2 Hill Stakes winner from last Saturday Moriarty ($4.6) and the David Vandyke-trained Kingston Town Stakes winner Prince Cheri ($7).
The shortest priced of Colin Stephen Quality nominees in The Metropolitan odds meanwhile is Prince Cheri’s stablemate Less Is More at $11.
An imported Beat Hollow gelding originally from France, Less Is More won their first stakes race down under last month beating Ironstein to the line in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) at Rosehill.
They then backed up in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at the same track on September 14 and were a good fourth to their stablemate.
The next best fancied Colin Stephen entry in futures markets for The Metropolitan 2013 is then the Gai Waterhouse-trained Julienas, the Cape Cross seven-year-old third in the Kingston Town Stakes last start.
Waterhouse has also nominated for her Grafton Cup third placegetter Reuben Percival on Saturday.
Other notable Colin Stephen Quality hopes that are also The Metropolitan bound include the John Hawkes-trained Polish Knight, Waller’s Danehill Dancer eight-year-old I’m Imposing, their stablemate Newcastle Cup runner-up Lucripetous and recent Randwick mile winner Pretty Pins.
See below for the Colin Stephen Quality Handicap 2013 nominations with acceptances closing on Wednesday morning.
Right now is the perfect time to check out the futures Group 1 markets for races like The Metropolitan before prices come in after the weekend’s race results.
