2013 Melbourne Cup Quinella, Trifecta & First Four Results

For the first time since the mighty Makybe Diva won her third Melbourne Cup in 2006, Waterhouse’s imported champion Fiorente saluted for the punters in the $6 million Group 1 handicap having jumped favourite in the two mile handicap.

After a perfectly timed run from Damien Oliver, now a triple Melbourne Cup winning jockey, six-year-old Fiorente was poised to run down brave veteran galloper Red Cadeaux to win by three-quarters of a length.

Finishing off the winning Melbourne Cup trifecta was then the second favourite in pre-jump betting, the Luca Cumani-trained Mount Athos.

The Melbourne Cup 2013 trifecta paid $179.60 in Queensland at Ladbrokes.com.au, not a huge payday as two of the first three over the line, the winner and third placegetter, sat first and second respectively in the Melbourne Cup odds.

All three horses also ran in the Melbourne Cup last year finishing second (Fiorente), fifth (Mount Athos) and eighth (Red Cadeaux) respectively behind Green Moon.

The 2013 Melbourne Cup First Four was #6,#3, #15 and #19 – paying a huge $118,652 in Victoria

It went against the Melbourne Cup history books then that the trio should be the first three over the line in the famous Flemington Race 7 this afternoon.

The Ed Dunlop-trained Red Cadeaux also ran second to the first French-trained Melbourne Cup winner Americain (2010) in their debut run down under three years ago.

In fourth for Melbourne Cup first four payouts was then William Mullins’ Irish raider Simenon, with the Marco Botti-trained European Dandino in fifth.

With Simenon a $20 outside, the first four in perfect order paid a huge $118,652.00 in Victoria.

That means that following the Aussie-trained Melbourne Cup winner, the next four past the post are all Northern Hemisphere-trained.
