Legendary trainer Bart Cummings’ has the hot pre-race favourite for this Saturday’s $400,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) as his star Dariana lines up in the prestigious three-year-old fillies’ race at Eagle Farm.
The scheduled highlight of the Treasury Casino QLD Oaks Day, the first Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival meeting to take place at the esteemed Eagle Farm racecourse, this year’s Queensland Oaks has attracted a capacity field of 18 starters plus five emergencies.
Redoute’s Choice filly Dariana has emerged as the warm favourite, currently at $3.75 for a win through [iasbet], despite drawing wide with barrier 19 for Saturday.
Dariana ran an eye-catching third to Marheta in the Group 3 Doomben Roses (2020m) on May 22, and should enjoy the extra distance of the Oaks.
Marheta, trained by Michael Moroney, is also backing up with a run in the Queensland Oaks this weekend. The Al Maher filly has drawn ideally with barrier three and is the second favourite in the betting markets currently paying $6 for a win at [iasbet].
Runner up in the Doomben Roses, Femina Fashion again faces off against Marheta and Dariana in the Oaks. The Gold Coast-based Shamardal filly has had 15 race starts and represents good value at $10 through [iasbet].
Other exciting fillies lining up in the 2010 Queensland Oaks include Doomben Roses fourth, fifth and sixth placegetters, Kiwi raider Spera securing the prized barrier one, the Peter Moody-trained Fairy Oak having her sixth career start, and Peter Snowden’s well-bred Lonhro filly Status Quo.
Meanwhile in the QLD Oaks betting markets, outside chance Miss Keepsake has had money coming in from the punters, shortening from her opening price of $41 in to $34 at [iasbet] to take out her third consecutive victory.
The 2010 Treasury Casino Queensland Oaks jumps at 3:00pm at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Other feature events on the day include the $250,000 Group 2 BRC Sire’s Produce Stakes (1400m) for two-year-olds, the $250,000 Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) previously called the PJ O’Shea Stakes, the $150,000 Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) and the $200,000 Group 2 Dane Ripper Quality (1400m).
