Dunn Confident in Gold Coast Guineas Success for Londehero

Trainer Matthew Dunn is expecting a polished and memorable campaign from stable star Londehero over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, starting with this weekend’s Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).

Securing four wins and three places from just eleven competitive starts so far, Londehero lines up for the Gold Coast Guineas on the back of a disastrous run for 10th in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) last time out; something Dunn has relegated to the history books.

“We took him down there because we wanted to put him up against some of the better southern horses to get a line on him for the winter” Dunn told AAP.

“As it turned out that was a waste of time. I wouldn’t have run him except the owners had driven down to watch him and we really had to run.”

Based in the northern New South Wales town of Murwillumbah, Londehero has been a standout performer over Queensland races this season, having claimed back-to-back resounding victories over 1200 metres prior to the unfortunate Gosford appearance.

Returning to the training arena for nearly a month, Dunn said he could not be happier with the Lonhro gelding’s condition and preparation leading into the Gold Coast Guineas.

“I was really happy with his work on Tuesday” Dunn said.

“It was probably the best he has ever worked.”

Claiming two victories and a place in only three starts over the 2013 spring, Londehero has more than earned his place in the Gold Coast Guineas, in what will be his maiden tilt at a Group level event.

Allocated the ideal barrier 3, Londehero is currently offered at a particularly generous quote of $16 in betting markets for success in the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas.

Three-year-old gelding Havana is currently sole occupant of the top line of Gold Coast Guineas betting markets at even $5 odds. Winner of the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) in her homeland last November, Kiwi raider Costa Viva is currently outright second favourite and clear $5.50 market mover to claim the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas crown.
