The Magic Millions National Classic is a non-Black Type race for fillies and mares that replaces the now defunct Group 3 Queensland Sapphire Stakes that was formerly known as the Glenlogan Park Stakes.
It is a middle distance event held under weight-for-age conditions annually at Eagle Farm Racecourse and currently takes place on Queensland Oaks Day.
Open only to fillies and mares, the Magic Millions National Classic (formerly Queensland Sapphire Stakes) pays a total of $500,000 prize money having been given a huge boost to the stakes in 2021.
The race, when run as the Glenlogan Park Stakes, was previously a set weights event and has been moved around the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival program a number of times, and previously served as a lead-up into the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) on Stradbroke Handicap Day.
Since the name change, the Magic Millions National Classic is now no longer confused with Randwick’s Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) – also for fillies and mares – contested in April over the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
From 2021 onwards the event runs over 1600m (up from 1300m) and attracts some of the finest local mares and fillies, as well as some solid interstate runners during their Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival bids. The runners may have had a lead-up in a race like Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) and the likely next-up option for female gallopers out of the race is the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
The 2024 Magic Millions National Classic ran at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday June 8, 2024 and was won by the Group 1 winning Kiwi mare La Crique ($2.70F) who proved too strong down under saluting for the punters.

Stay tuned for our insider Magic Millions National Classic 2024 tips this Queensland Oaks Day.
- To Win: #1 La Crique ($2.30 at time of publish) – BET NOW
We’re backing the in-form favourite, La Crique, for a strong showing in her Brisbane debut. This talented Kiwi mare thrives at the mile and boasts two Group 1 victories back home. After a winning WFA run over this distance in her summer campaign, she returned with a close second at 1400m last start. The step back up to 1600m now is ideal, and her class should shine through. Look for her to make a big impact in her first Australian run since the 2022 Empire Rose Stakes when she went down as the odds-on favourite crossing fourth to Icebath.
2024 Magic Millions National Classic Field
Each winter the Magic Millions National Classic field attracts a quality line-up of fillies and mares that are likely on the path towards the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) held back at the track a few weeks later.

The 2024 Magic Millions National Classic final field features a smart line-up of WFA mares led by two-time Group 1 winning New Zealand visitor, La Crique.

The event was previously run at set weights over 1300m, but from 2020 onwards runs over a mile at weight-for-age.
Notable recent winners of the Glenlogan Park / Sapphire Stakes / Magic Millions National Classic include Ortensia (2009) who went on to great international campaigns in Dubai and England, Wealth Princess and Stella Maree and classy Godolphin-raced mare Savatiano (2019).
From 2017 onwards the race moved from Doomben to Eagle Farm Racecourse due to a reshuffle of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival program.
