Caulfield Cup Day 2024 is one of the biggest days on the Australian racing calendar and is set to run on Saturday, October 19, 2024 during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
Caulfield Cup Day is headlined by the Group 1 $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) for local and international stayers, many heading towards a run in the iconic Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on the first Tuesday of November.
Caulfield Cup Day has recently fallen on the same date as Sydney’s The Everest Day featuring the world’s richest turf race – the Group 1 $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick – and will do so again in 2024.
The other major support races on Caulfield Cup Day in 2024 include the:
- Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m),
- Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m),
- Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m),
- Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m),
- Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m), and the
- Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m).
The Caulfield Cup 2024 race number is Caulfield Race 9 at 5:15pm (AEDT) on the bumper 10-race Caulfield Cup Day program.

RESERVE BANK (6) has to go on top here owing to the fact he beat a handful of key rivals home in the Danehill at Flemington, only finding stablemate First Settler narrowly too strong. Don't think 1200m will pull him up and he gets the nod. LOFTY ARCH (8) was a good maiden winner on debut and gave a sight in the Danehill at just his second start when backed at odds. Better for that, he can cross up and take catching. TARPAULIN (4) was sound in the Danehill when fourth and must have claims. STOLI BOLLI (5) won in very fast time at Moonee Valley last start and will have fans with those watching the clock.

The key chances ran the trifecta in the Super Impose. SCARY (5) was third there but reeled off the fastest last 600m after getting too far back, looming as a strong chance at the 200m mark before the ones on speed kicked back. Out to 2000m will suit him nicely, he looks a proper Derby type. KEENELAND (1) won the Super Impose and came away over the final 50m. He maps for every chance again and will be the one they have to run down. RED ACES (2) was strong to the line splitting the pair and is another suited to 2000m. KINGOFWALLSTREET (8) hit the line nicely in the Derby Trial over 1800m and any rise in distance will help.

Tricky race for the girls. KILLCARE BEACHGIRL (5) led at a really solid clip in the Edward Manifold as the rain and hail came and stuck on well there, rising from 1250m at just her second run for the campaign. She's a beautifully bred filly who will give a big sight around here. TOO DARN DISCREET (1) proved too good winning the Manifold and rises 2kg for it. Can't see 2000m pulling her up and she'll take beating again. ALL KINDS OF FOLK (7) is still a maiden but ran on well at big odds in the Manifold after being held up and should relish 2000m. FEMMINILE (3) tackled the boys in the Super Impose and ran quite well. She looks a real stayer and a likely Oaks type. HURRY CURRY (4) won the Oaks Trial well and has claims although that doesn't look the A1 form.

Tricky race but found it hard to go past ISTHMUS (8) who has won both starts this time in, dominant in fast time fresh before winning well with 59.5kg as the $1.70 favourite last time. Gets some weight relief here and this looks a nice race for her. NIANCE (10) resumes. She's a progressive mare who won 3/4 last time in, her first Australian preparation. The only defeat came as a $1.45 chance so the market loves her and she's got plenty of upside. PASSEGGIATA (5) is usually a speed demon but was slowly away and settled last over 955m fresh. If she jumps cleanly she'll be hard to catch. CHINNY BOOM (2) was awful fresh but has ability on her day. GUMDROPS (1) did win a G3 second up last time in although she was just fair fresh.

Wide open affair. Quite a few come through the Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley, and of those, MATISSE (5) makes the most appeal. She was only first-up there whereas her rivals were fitter and she hit the line nicely for fifth, beaten under three lengths. She'll relish 1400m now and looks a good each way hope. GEEGEES MISTRUTH (3) has been rock solid in two runs in Melbourne, just finding one better each time. Tried hard in the Champagne and that form has stood up well through Bellatrix Star. Tricky draw but will take beating. ZEITUNG (6) was fastest home in the Champagne from a hopeless spot and ran very well. Will be hard to hold out. AMEENA (1) was just fair in the G2 Tea Rose but her prior form stacks up well against these. TOO DARN LIZZIE (4) could give a sight.

REY MAGNERIO (8) ran on well fresh behind Jimmysstar with that form looking very strong now. Back to 1000m now is a slight query but he gets in well with 53kg and will be hard to hold out. ESTRIELLA (1) is the big query. She was favourite in the G1 Moir Stakes fresh when wide but just fair before a strongly run 1200m in the Manikato saw her out. She does have to carry 59kg as a 4yo mare here and there is a case to be made she's not going well. WAY TO THE STARS (7) is a speedy type right in this off the run two back, albeit he had every favour that day. ASHFORD STREET (4) will run well.

SKYBIRD (4) clearly on top. She's been outstanding in two runs back, flying late to just miss Arkansaw Kid fresh before drawing the carpark, getting a mile back and charging into third at Flemington. Gets the switch to a soft gate here, if she can use it, she will be awfully hard to hold out. REVOLUTIONARY MISS (2) won the Flemington race, getting a nice run and scoring narrowly. No knocks on her. MISS ARIA (9) split the pair in the Blazer and ran on strongly from the back as well. She's very consistent and right up to winning this. QUINTESSA (1) can improve.

The Caulfield Cup. BUCKAROO (2) clearly on top. His last two starts have been outstanding, bolting in with the Underwood Stakes here over 1800m before heading Via Sistina in the Turnbull before that mare, who is one of the best in the country, just edged him. He's been strong late so the rise to 2400m shouldn't pose an issue and he gets in well at the compressed weights. ZARDOZI (13) took a few runs to get going but clearly improved in The Metropolitan last time, beaten a nose and arguably a touch stiff not to win on protest. For that, she gets in beautifully with 51kg and her 2400m+ form is very good. DENY KNOWLEDGE (15) is the 'weights horse' dropping back from WFA last week when beating Mr Brightside. 2400m and much more pressure here, but she's a huge chance. ELIYASS (7) is very progressive and the market loved him in the Turnbull. Very wary.

Race comments
GENTLEMAN ROY (2) comes here off a let up having run third in the G1 Memsie Stakes at this track and trip last start. He won the G2 PB Lawrence prior over some class animals and is an absolute rock at 1400m. He'll be very tough to get past. PINSTRIPED (1) was given a great ride to win the Memsie before pulling up with issues in the Makybe Diva. If he's over those problems, he's clearly got the class and will take beating from a nice gate. RIPCORD (8) worked home well at his Melbourne debut over 1200m. His only 1400m run it took Olly and Munhamek to burst through and knock him off. COASTWATCH (9) has been sound in two runs back and has each way claims.
Race comments
CATOGGIO (4) can measure up strongly here off a smart maiden win at Geelong fresh, leading throughout to beat a handy field and scoring by 2.25 lengths. He maps ideally here and will prove hard to catch. SUGAR COAT (1) won his first two starts nicely before starting odds on to beat the smart Ndola at Sandown Hillside when second. Tricky draw but rates highly. SUPERNIMA (5) resumed with a solid run at Geelong in a good Class 1 when close up in third. Fitter for that and is right up to these. GETAFIX (2) brings solid benchmark form down from Sydney and has claims. BARBARIC LAD (3) has ability and can run well fresh.
