Queensland Cup News
The Queensland Cup is a Listed race that takes place at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse in early October having been moved in 2020 from its earlier slot in late July at the end of the annual Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
Formerly run over the traditional cup distance of two miles (3200m) – the same as the iconic Melbourne Cup in the spring and the Sydney Cup each autumn – it is now a 2400m race that serves as a potential lead-up into the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) later in October.
A quality handicap race, the Queensland Cup field face off for $150,000 in prize money as of 2022.
The Toowoomba Cup held a fortnight earlier is a good lead-up into the event, and in 2021 Honorable Spirit improved on a Toowoomba Cup second to win the Queensland Cup that spring.
Honorable Spirit returned to run third in the 2022 Queensland Cup results behind Fun Fact.
The latest edition of the Queensland Cup ran on Saturday October 8, 2022, the same day Melbourne hosts its Caulfield Guineas Day card, and was won by the Bjorn Baker-trained Fun Fact ($7).

2022 Queensland Cup Field
The Queensland Cup Field of Final Acceptors is announced by Racing Queensland the Wednesday of race week and features the top stayers of the season.
Following its move from the winter to the spring, horses in the Queensland Cup field may now use Sydney’s Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) on Golden Rose Day as a lead-up. In 2020 Grey Lion improved on his lead-up third in the Colin Stephen to win the Queensland Cup over 2200m.
Fun Fact (5th in 2022) was the last Colin Stephen Quality graduate out of Sydney to back-up and win the Queensland Cup in Brisbane.
A small line-up of spring stayers faces off in the 2022 Queensland Cup field at Eagle Farm on Saturday with betting on the mile and a half showdown a two horse affair between the Chris Waller-trained Mohican Heights coming off a fourth in Sydney’s Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality and the Gary Duncan-trained Toowoomba Cup winner Seat Of Power chasing a third win on the trot.
