Newcastle Racecourse



The Newcastle Racecourse is located two hours outside of Sydney on the beautiful Hunter Coast. Also known as the Broadmeadow Racecourse, the course is home to the Newcastle Jockey Club. It is over 100 years old and a staple in Australian horse racing.

The Newcastle Racecourse is the largest provincial racecourse in New South Wales with a circumference of 2000 metres. The length of straight of 415 metres. It is a run in a clockwise direction with three chutes and a turf surface.

The course recently underwent a multi million dollar renovation, which saw the addition of eight function rooms available for a variety of events. It also boasts two levels of Members Bars, a Public Bar, a plethora of restaurants, and the popular Lawn Marquees. All of these, along with a calendar packed with popular racing events, provide racing enthusiasts with an unbeatable raceday experience.

Newcastle Racecourse offers racegoers 26 Saturday race days per year. In addition, it hosts the Autumn and Spring Racing Carnivals and the famous Sunday Westpac Rescue Helicopter Raceday.

Perhaps the biggest event held at the course is the Boxing Day Races, which is known to draw over 16000 racing enthusiasts with the full race program, numerous activities, and live entertainment.

Travelling to Newcastle Racecourse

Train:
You can travel to the Newcastle Racecourse by catching a train to the Broadmeadow or Hamilton Train Station. Both are located approximately one kilometre from the course.

Bus:
There are a number of buses that travel to the course. Check your local schedule and routes for buses that run to Broadmeadow, dropping off at Darling Street. Race goers can also depart the course via bus with drop off points at the corner of Beaumont Street, Tudor Street, Hamilton Rail Station, and Civic Rail Station. They depart 15 minutes prior to and after the last race.

Car:
Newcastle Racecourse is located on Darling Street approximately three kilometres outside of Newcastle’s CBD. That is around two hours outside of Sydney. The course offers 300 free parking spaces through the Darling Street entrance. Parking is also available along Darling Street and Chatham Road.
