2015 Magic Millions Class 6 Plate Field & Betting

This weekend the Magic Millions Gold Coast races take place in the Sunshine State with the day’s eight-race program on Saturday closed out by the Magic Millions Class 6 Plate 2015.

Jumping at a scheduled start time of 4:50pm (local) this year’s $100,000 Sky Racing World Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (1200m) field is at capacity with 16 runners guaranteed a start and four emergencies.

Despite the bumper field just three of the final acceptors are under double figures in the current Magic Millions Class 6 Plate odds at Ladbrokes.com.au including two batting for top spot in the markets.

Current favourite at $3.80 is the super-consistent Robert Smerdon-trained Victorian visitor Real Time who is followed very closely at $3.90 by Chris Waller’s Sydney raider Murder Of Crows.

Drawn ideally in barrier five with Christian Reith to ride, four-year-old Testa Rossa gelding Real Time won three races on the trot after breaking his maiden status at Cranbourne in October.

He then won over 1400m at Ballarat and Sandown-Lakeside in two Benchmark 64 races in November before going down last start on December 24 at Sale when third behind Smokin’ Al after carrying a hefty 60.5kg in the 1206m race.

Seeing a similar distance on the weekend at the Gold Coast, Real Time will be flying when he drops down to just 54.5kg for this.

On the same weight but drawn slightly wider in gate nine for jockey Brenton Avdulla is then Waller’s Flying Spur gelding Murder Of Crows, the five-year-old coming off a third to Haussmann at Rosehill over 1300m on December 20.

He had a wide gate 11 draw there and should be better closer to the fence over less distance here.

Rounding out the single figure hopes at $6.50 is then the David Lawlor-trained Brisbane galloper Architect, the Bel Esprit four-year-old Group 3 performed this summer.

Two back he was sixth when only two and a quarter lengths off Big Money in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) before his last start sixth this time over 1350m in a Class 6 with 59kg on December 13 at Doomben.

He was well beaten when tested over more metres that day but should improve on Saturday back down to 1200m and dropping in the weights too.

Outside the top three in betting is then a host of other longer priced hopes with genuine claims including market mover Table Two ($12) who won a Class 1 at Newcastle two back before a second in a Class 2 on November 22, the rails-drawn Grafton Guineas placegetter Bodega Negra ($13) coming off a win at Ipswich from Christmas Eve, local Jet Spur four-year-old Siegfried ($14) in the outside barrier and Real Favulous ($15) who won at Warwick in the wet over 1200m on Boxing Day.
