Randwick – Race 1 Results – Wins 2010 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes

Hot favourite Defiant Dame has won the opening race at Randwick today, beating home a quality field of fellow two-year-old fillies in the $100,000 Listed Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (1000m).

Starting as the odds-on favourite the David Payne-trained daughter of More Than Ready jumped beautifully from her wide barrier draw and took to the front of the field within the first few strides.

Showing blistering gate speed the natural ‘jump and run’ filly Defiant Dame lead all the way finishing three and a half lengths ahead of Gai Waterhouse’s Hallowell Belle with the Peter Snowden-trained Disputes a further three quarters of a length back for third

It was Defiant Dame’s maiden race jump and victory following two successful barrier trials, giving Rosehill-based trainer David Payne another winning start to the two-year-old season.

On the day Defiant Dame was far too good for her rivals coasting to victory, but it was also an eye-catching run from third placegetter Disputes, a half sister to Divorces, who came from nowhere to finish in the money.

The next race to jump at Randwick’s Epsom Handicap Day is the NSW Breeders Plate (1000m) for two-year-old colts and geldings where Smart Missile is the hot favourite.
