The Blazer Stakes 2016 is one of the key support acts on the Turnbull Stakes Day card at Flemington Racecourse this Sunday, October 2, betting tips and the latest odds update on the mares’ showdown found below.
Due to jump as the penultimate event on the program as Flemington Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEDT), there are five scratchings from this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) since acceptances closed at the start of the week.
Coming out of the line-up are: #1 Miss Gunpowder (5), #3 Iggimacool (9), #7 Jessy Belle (17), #15 Clemency (1) and the second of three emergencies #18e Euro Angel (15).
Of the remaining hopefuls the top fancy in Blazer Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au at $4.40 is Telopea, drawn a treat in barrier two.
The Pivotal six-year-old hails from the top Victorian stables of Darren Weir and has star Melbourne hoop Damien Oliver aboard as she looks to improve on the brave eighth last Saturday at Caulfield when under three lengths off the winner Bon Aurum in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).
The other best fancies in the Blazer Stakes odds are the Chris Waller-trained French Emotion ($5), Let’s Elope Stakes third placegetter last time out at the track Manageress ($8) and Weir’s rails-drawn Rockolicious ($8).
So will the best in betting get the job done or is there an upset Blazer Stakes result pending from a longer priced hope such as the Lindsay Park-trained four-year-old Majestic Lass ($14) or Robert Smerdon’s six-year-old Every Faith ($14) racing second-up for the season?
1st
#11 Telopea ($4.40)
The early money trail is on the favourite and we’re happy to follow with the drop back in class to help boost a return to form from this six-year-old. She comes off the Group 1 run over the distance but should be ready to peak. Her Flemington record is good and she won over the track / distance in the winter. The distance is ideal (9-4-2-0) and the gate is ideal for a big run.
2nd
#10 Manageress ($8)
Lots of boxes ticked by Cindy Alderson’s Magnus five-year-old who loves Flemington (9-2-2-2) and comes off a beautiful fresh run when only a half-length off Don’t Doubt Mamma in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m). That form was franked on Friday night with the winner taking out Moonee Valley’s Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m), and Manageress also ran second in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) to Lucia Valentina in her other latest run back on Emirates Stakes Day last spring – also top form.
3rd
#17 Majestic Lass ($14)
Value tip is this Redoute’s Choice four-year-old who has run fourth in her three latest runs in easier company. Up in class but this is her ideal distance and was only narrowly beaten when under a length off Alaskan Rose in a Benchmark 90 two weeks ago. Ready to finish in the money.
