Gai Waterhouse’s Flight Stakes winning filly Global Glamour is the clear Thousand Guineas 2016 betting market mover and has firmed into co-favouritism with Foxplay to win this afternoon’s Group 1 at Caulfield.

Last Saturday the daughter of Star Witness handed co-trainer Waterhouse with her record ninth Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) victory in Sydney.
Now on the seven day turnaround Global Glamour chases the interstate Group 1 three-years-old fillies’ mile double last achieved by Guelph (2013) with success in the $500,000 Thousand Guineas (1600m).
She’s drawn gate eight with Kerrin McEvoy replacing Tim Clark in the saddle and opened at $5 for the win.
Global Glamour has since firmed in the Thousand Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au to $3.90 and sits top of the markets with the Chris Waller-trained Foxplay.
Foxplay has eased out from $2.60 to her $3.90 price, the daughter of Foxwedge having bypassed last weekend’s Flight Stakes after winning the traditional two lead-ups with the Furious Stakes – Tea Rose double.
Concerns from her hoop, champion Hugh Bowman, about how Foxplay will handle the Caulfield track have the punters shying away from backing her to hand Waller his second Thousand Guineas win in three years after the success with Amicus (2014).
The other big Thousand Guineas firmer backed in from $16 to $9 is Missrock jumping from barrier nine with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.
Dunn won the race last year on Stay With Me (2015) and chases back-to-back victories this spring on the Robbie Laing-trained Fastnet Rock filly who comes off the close sixth in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).
She was under two lengths off the winner Legless Veuve – $19 to complete the Prelude – Thousand Guineas double this afternoon – after a luckless run and from the draw she can get a nice trail and close off well, peaking three runs in this campaign.
Also at single-figures is Harlow Gold ($10 into $9) with the inside alley, the Lindsay park-trained Lord Tavistock filly coming off back-to-back victories.
The latest on September 17 was over this track / distance, and while she is up notably in class the previous form at a mile is an advantage.
Other firming chances include the Simon Miller-trained multiple Group winner Whispering Brook ($12 to $11) who was also not far off after a hard Prelude run for seventh and the Prelude runner-up from NZ La Luna Rossa ($13 into $11) who gets the blinkers on today.
Easing out are the likes of recent Quezette Stakes winner at the track I Am A Star ($16 out to $19) and the aforementioned Prelude winner Legless Veuve ($15 to $19) chasing her third win on the trot.
