Emirates Stakes Day 2016: Tips & Preview

2016 Emirates Stakes Day finishes-up the Melbourne Cup Carnival this Saturday, November 5, at Flemington Racecourse and below are the Races.com.au Flemington tips for all nine races on ‘Family Day’.

Lankan Rupee

The racing action kicks off at 12:15pm (AEDT) and continues through until the card closer at 5:45pm (AEDT) with six Black-Type features peppered across the card.

The best of those are the two elite level showdowns: the 2016 Emirates Stakes and the 2016 Darley Classic stealing the show as races 7 and 8.

The $2 million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) is the former Mackinnon Stakes held a week earlier, the new-look race inaugurated at 4:15pm (AEDT) and set to be dominated by the likes of The United States, Vadamos and Scottish according to betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The $1 million Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) is the premier sprint race of the spring carnival and even without the gun three-year-olds and Chautauqua, the depth of the field is outstanding including five-time Group 1 winner Lankan Rupee.

Below are our exclusive Flemington racing tips for the full program that you can take to Ladbrokes.com.au – home of Odds Boost and Enhanced Odds (T&Cs apply).

Race 1 (12:15pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m)

  • # 1 Azazel ($4.40)
  • #4 Aspect ($8.50)
  • #6 Destiny’s Own ($34)

Read our full 2016 Maribyrnong Plate Betting Tips.

Race 2 (12:50pm) – $100,000 Starlight Children’s Foundation Plate (2000m)

  • #13 Curragh ($6.50)
  • #2 Nozomi ($13)
  • #12 Charlevoix ($6)

A benchmark 90 for the middle-distance stayers where there’s plenty of chances for the win at good odds. Our tip is the consistent Tavistock four-year-old Curragh, formerly trained in NZ, who caught the eye with a mile second at the Valley last time out. Can improve and looks like he’ll eat up the meters. Nozomi is up there weight-wise, but has won up to 2200m and has J. Mac aboard, while Charlevoix is a genuine lightweight hope who was luckless last time out.

Race 3 (1:30pm) – $300,000 Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m)

  1. #1 Howard Be Thy Name ($19)
  2. #1 Francis Of Assisi ($3.50)
  3. #9 Angel’s Touch ($18)

Race 4 (2:10pm) – $150,000 Listed Hilton Stakes (1400m)

  • #8 Crafted ($14)
  • #1 Souchez ($11)
  • #6 Inside Agent ($11)

Race 5 (2:50pm) – $100,000 Antler Luggage Handicap (1600m)

  • #8 Lucky Paddy ($5.50)
  • #3 Petrology ($21)
  • #1 Observational ($13)

A benchmark 96 run over the mile where market mover Mabeel and Lucky Paddy are battling for favouritism. The latter looks the pick at the light weight with Damien Oliver aboard the Darren Weir-trained gelding who has good form at the distance (3-2-0-1), but is yet to really show form at Flemington. Was close around this time last year over 1800m and had a year off, but is back and in form again. Petrology for Lindsay Park is overs and comes off a nice fourth in easier company at the distance, while Observational gives the weight away but has enough class to run a late third.

Race 6 (3:30pm) – $300,000 Group 2 7News Matriarch Stakes (2000m)

  • #16 Happy Hannah ($8.50)
  • #8 Denmagic ($6)
  • #10 Lady Le Fay ($4)

Check out our full 2016 Matriarch Stakes Betting Preview.

Race 7 (4:15pm) – $2,000,000 Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m)

  • #5 Vadamos ($4.60)
  • #10 Vanbrugh ($21)
  • #12 Good Standing ($12)

Read our full 2016 Emirates Stakes Tips & Preview.

Race 8 (5:00pm) – $1,000,000 Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m)

  • #1 Lankan Rupee ($6)
  • #6 Our Boy Malachi ($4.60)
  • #5 Fell Swoop ($7)

Read our full 2016 Darley Classic Betting Tips.

Race 9 (5:45pm) – $100,000 Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m)

  • #8 Demonstrate ($3.20)
  • #10 Lucky Liberty ($12)
  • #3 Ulmann ($5.50)

A handicap to close the card and the action of this year’s Cup Carnival at Flemington. Strong field assembled, but Demonstrate on the quick-up look shard to beat chasing his fourth win on the trot. The John O’Shea-trained four-year-old won over the track / distance on Cup Day carrying more kilos and is flying. Lucky Liberty adds value and is in similar form coming off back-to-back wins in easier company, while the rails-drawn Ulmann is class and was a close third in the Crystal Mile to The United States last start.
