2016 RJ Peters Stakes Betting Tips & Odds

A class line-up of middle-distance gallopers face off in Saturday’s RJ Peters Stakes 2016 field at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse, betting tips and the latest odds on the handicap clash found below.

Our 2016 RJ Peters Stakes Trifecta tip is #1 Heart Starter from #10 Scales Of Justice and #11 Showy Chloe

Due to jump as Ascot Race 6 at 4:00pm (local time), this season’s $150,000 Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) has attracted a final field of 11 hopefuls.

Heading the latest RJ Peters Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a short $2.35 and firming is the clear favourite Scales Of Justice.

The Lindsey Smith-trained Not A Single Doubt four-year-old comes off a mile win at the track in a Benchmark 72+ carrying 58kg and will relish the drop back to 55kg on the weekend.

This is a rise in class for the in-form gelding, but he is yet to finish out of the money in his 11 career starts to date and boasts two wins and two seconds at the Ascot track.

A further four runners are also under double-figures for the win in the RJ Peters Stakes betting markets this Perth Summer Racing Carnival, including Great Shot ($5.50).

Local horseman Rhys Radford saddles-up the Magnus four-year-old who lines-up in another Group 3 race after his second to Heart Starter, narrowly beaten carrying two kilos less, in the Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) here a fortnight back.

So will the top two run the quinella or is there value further down the markets for an upset RJ Peters Stakes result from the likes of the 59kg top weight Heart Starter ($7) shooting for three straight wins or the rails-drawn Respondent ($14) for Fred Kersley coming off the Asian Beau Stakes third?

1st

#1 Heart Starter ($7)

This in-form Domesday four-year-old gives the weight away and rises from 54kg last start to 59kg on Saturday, but hard to knock the lead-up form with back-to-back wins over 1400m. Can handle more distance proven by wins up to 1800m, and has faced some strong rivals over his 10 starts. 50% winning strike rate, three-from-five at the track and was brave late to win the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes last time out. If he handles the kilos, can handle these rivals.

2nd

#10 Scales Of Justice ($2.35)

Firming favourite and certainly has claims based on the lead-up form in easier company. Coming off a mile win at the track a fortnight back, is down in weight and ready for the class rise. Loves this course (4-2-2-0), drawn in gate eight giving jockey Paul Harvey options and doesn’t need to improve much to post an early summer Group 3 win.

3rd

#11 Showy Chloe ($7)

Another lightweight with genuine claims, this Jason Pateman-trained mare ran only a half-length away fifth in the Asian Beau Stakes after doing it tough out wide (barrier 12 of 12). She’ll get a better run here from gate five and can finish closer.
