2016 Placid Ark Stakes Tips & Odds Update

The opening stakes race of Railway Stakes Day in W.A. on the weekend sees a smart field of three-year-old sprinters face off in the Placid Ark Stakes 2016, betting tips for which are listed below.

Our 2016 Placid Ark Stakes Trifecta Tip is #7 Sweet Ora from #5 Belter and #2 Caipirinha

Due to jump at 3:00pm (local time) as Ascot Race 5, this year’s $100,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) field is down from 13 to 11 runners after the scratchings of Sammy The Boss (9) and Akiko (13).

Heading the updated Placid Ark Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.80 and firming fast is the Simon Miller-trained Caipirinha, the Nicconi filly on a quick seven day turnaround.

Last weekend she finished fifth to Samovare in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) and drops back from a mile to 1200m, a distance her latest run over saw her break her maiden status in the Listed Belgravia Stakes.

The other best in Placid Ark Stakes betting this Perth Summer Racing Carnival are the flying Oratorio filly Sweet Ora ($3.40) chasing a third win on the trot at the track and the progressive Where’s Wally ($4.40) racing for the first time since September.

So do the bookies have the predicted Placid Ark Stakes finishing order correct or is there an upset pending from a longer priced chance such as Stratum filly Precious Memories ($15) who has run second in both her Ascot runs to date or the rails-drawn Belter ($21) who caught the eye last start running second on debut.

1st

#7 Sweet Ora ($3.40)

She’s drawn wide but the field is down to 11 and think this ultra-consistent filly has enough class to overcome the alley and get the job done to enjoy her third win on the trot. She’s had three runs at the track for two wins and the step up in distance should suit. She’s been odds-on for her two latest and so is better value here up in stakes class. Drops from 58kg to 54.5kg here and William Pike stays on this well-weighted and well-tried youngster.

2nd

#5 Belter ($21)

Great value on offer for this lightly-raced Sean Casey-trained son of Denman who has just his second career start. He came very close on debut just nosed out of an 1100m win at Ascot on Melbourne Cup Day. Wouldn’t need to improve too much to finish in the money again here from the inside alley and should be fitter and firing up over the extra distance.

3rd

#2 Caipirinha ($2.80)

Favourite is impossible to leave out dropping back in distance. She was unsuited to the mile in the Group 3 last Saturday and is easier company for this. Her 1200m record is solid (4-1-2-0) and is weighted okay. Good barrier (3) and Joe Azzopardi knows her well. A little short, but she could prove the one to beat with the fillies continuing to impress this season.
