The BMW 2017 Tips & Odds Update

The autumn’s top weight-for-age stayers face off at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday in the 2017 The BMW, betting tips and updated odds for which are detailed below.

Jameka

Stealing the show in Sydney as Rosehill Race 6 at 3:30pm (AEDT), this year’s $1.5 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) features nine classy gallopers led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by the Ciaron Maher-trained Jameka ($3.80).

The four-year-old mare will relish getting out over 2400m for the first time this season on the back of a string of good runs including her last start second to Humidor in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington.

The Darren Weir-trained Australian Cup winner Humidor ($4.60) is also in the top-half of The BMW betting to complete the double achieved by Preferment (2016) last year.

The bookies are also taking no chances with Our Ivanhowe ($4.40) coming off the Ranvet Stakes win in the mud at the track last weekend and Tavago ($4.40) who won the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) by over three lengths a fortnight ago.

Earlier we published a full 2017 The BMW Form Guide & Preview and based on the facts and stats uncovered there we’ve got the top tips on the race to take to Ladbrokes.com.au this weekend.

Our 2017 The BMW Trifecta Tip is #8 Jameka from #7 Tavago and #1 Our Ivanhowe

1st

#8 Jameka ($3.80)

It’s a wide open race looking at the top four contenders and hard to see the winner coming from outside of that. Happy to get behind the mare again and hope Jameka’s just been waiting to peak fourth-up getting out over 2400m. She was run down in the dying stages in the Australian Cup and if she is at top fitness now that won’t happen at a mile and a half. Proven on Heavy going so the rain shouldn’t be a problem for her from barrier two with jockey Hugh Bowman chasing back-to-back The BMW winning rides.

2nd

#7 Tavago ($4.40)

Sky High Stakes winner last time out over 2000m by over three lengths and has winning form over 2400m having beaten Jameka as a three-year-old in last autumn’s ATC Derby. The wet track is a query, but if he ploughs through the mud this Kiwi expat will be right in the money again on the improve third-up on Saturday from gate four.

3rd

#1 Our Ivanhowe ($4.40)

So much to like about the win by Our Ivanhowe last weekend in the Ranvet Stakes. The veteran stallion has been crying out for a mud course and he should get another on the quick back-up on the weekend. The Ranvet Stakes is historically the right race to come into The BMW via and he has obviously pulled up well enough to go for the double. At home on rain-affected going and proven at the 2400m (10-3-0-1).
