A nice line-up of autumn three-year-olds face off in the Hawkesbury Guineas 2017 on Saturday, betting tips and the updated odds on the Group 3 clash detailed below.
There are 13 remaining chances in this season’s $200,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) after the early scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Lincoln Blue (1).
Two gallopers currently battle for top spot in the updated Hawkesbury Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au with Spright ($4.50) and Calanda ($4.50) who come into barriers one and five respectively.
Garry Frazer’s rails-drawn Hinchinbrook filly Spright is down in grade after a brave Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) fourth at Randwick, while the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Calanda comes off a Canterbury win and has Hugh Bowman retaining the ride.
So will the top two fancies battle it out for the win or is there an upset Hawkesbury Guineas result pending from the likes of the James Cummings-trained Good Standing ($7) racing for the first time since his Group 1 Emirates Stakes run during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Gai Waterhouse’s filly Prompt Response ($7) who has been racing well this time in at Randwick or the proven Hawkesbury performer Generalissimo ($12)?
1st
#3 Generalissimo ($12)
Love the double-figure odds on offer for this local Garry White-trained son of Dream Ahead who was last seen winning the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Royal Randwick during The Championships. Returns home for this at a track he boasts three wins from five previous runs over and has Blake Shinn retaining the ride in another plus. Forgotten horse in the field due to the wide alley, but tipping an upset from the local.
2nd
#4 Spright ($4.50)
Plenty of money coming in for the now equal favourite who has been well-supported to get the job done from the inside alley with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle. Locally-trained, this will actually be the daughter of Hinchinbrook’s first start at the Hawkesbury track. She’s a Group 3 Flemington winner and also finished the brave first-up third to Group 1 winner Global Glamour in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes in February. Last run was also in Sydney when fourth in the Group 2 Arrowfield and that form as stacked up in this race a number of times.
3rd
#6 Caerless Choice ($15)
Another livewire chance at good odds, this consistent Paul Messara-trained son of Redoute’s Choice from Scone has enjoyed a stellar start to his career with four wins from five starts to date. Is two-from-three over this distance and comes off a Randwick fourth over 1400m in the wet from the start of the month. Tommy Berry rides from a midfield position and can finish off strongly in the money.
