The racetrack at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club is a relatively new track located just 50 minutes north of Brisbane. The club held its first race meet in July 1985 with racing every Sunday. Friday night racing will be held this Summer for 16 weeks from and Friday 12th November 2010 through to Friday 25th February 2011. With 960 lights and 40 towers surrounding the track at night, the Sunshine Coast racecourse is a spectacle to be seen!
There are three tracks at the club, a grass training track, a new state of the art synthetic “Cushion Track” and the Course Proper. The club invested $6 million into the Cushion track which is the first of its kind in Australia. The entire racecourse encloses a lagoon with a track circumference of 1967m and 400m straight. With sweeping turns and a great long straight, this is a fair track ideal for all horses.

Racing every Sunday and selected Friday Nights through summer. The Sunshine Coast Turf Club also hosts a number of major racing events including the Caloundra Cup Carnival in July. With 8 races on the first day of the Caloundra Cup, these two days offer a total of $1,005,000 in prize money. The major race is the 2400m Caloundra Cup worth $200,000. The 1400m Glasshouse Handicap is worth $175,000 and the 1600m Sunshine Coast Guineas is worth $100,000 in prize money.
Other significant races held at the racecourse include the Ladies Oaks Day, a Class 1 and Class 2 Handicap and a 3 year old Handicap. The Sunshine Coast Cup is held in January each year.

Car:
Sunshine Coast Turf Club is located at 170 Pierce Ave at Meridan Plains – 80kms north of the Brisbane CBD. Just head north onto the Bruce Highway, exiting at Caloundra Road. There is ample parking most days at the racecourse, however on big race days it can become full early and visitors are encouraged to catch public transport.
