Set in picturesque North Queensland, the Townsville Racecourse has been a part of the Australian horse racing scene since 1866. It is commonly referred to as Cluden Park Racecourse and is home to the Townsville Turf Club. The course is known for it’s beautifully manicured grounds and gardens and has developed into a major provincial racecourse in Queensland.
This is a 1680 metre racecourse that is run in a clockwise direction. It offers a home straight that is 310 metres long with five chutes. One of the most distinct features of the track is the downhill run from the 1000 metre chute. It also features a long sweeping home turn. It was granted TAB status in 1994 and has since developed into one of the biggest racecourses in Northern Queensland with TAB and SKY Channel coverage on many of the races.
In addition to a fantastic course that hosts plenty of popular races, the Townsville Racecourse is located on spectacularly maintained grounds with some of the most impressive gardens found in the area. Because of its picturesque surroundings, it is a popular location for other functions and events. The course can host anything from weddings to corporate functions in their beautiful facilities.

Townsville Racing
The Townsville Racecourse offers over 30 days of live racing scattered over the entire year. Most months feature at least two racedays. One of the biggest events is the Townsville Cup. It is held in July each year and attracts over 12,000 racing enthusiasts. It is part of the track’s Winter Racing Carnival and offers a Fashions on the Field Day, Ladies Race Day, and plenty of activities and live entertainment.
Travelling to Townsville Racecourse
Bus:
The Sunbus runs to the Townsville Racecourse. Simply board the 2A or 2C service and you will be taken to the Wulguru set of lights. It’s just a short walking distance from there.
Car:
Townsville is located in Northern Queensland. The Townsville Racecourse is located approximately 16 minutes south of the city centre. It can easily be reached by car by driving south on Flinders Highway.
