The Champions Mile – recently renamed ahead of the 2022 edition having previously been run as the Kennedy Cantala – is one of three Group 1 races run at Flemington Racecourse on Champions Stakes Day, the last of four Melbourne Cup Carnival meetings held on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup takes place on the first Tuesday of November.
Kennedy Cantala / Champions Mile results. Prior to 2016 the event ran as the Emirates Stakes.
Past Kennedy Cantala / Champions Mile Results
The Kennedy Cantala / Champions Mile results usually appear online at bookmakers including Ladbrokes.com.au within minutes of being announced on the track, so you do not have to worry about missing out on vital information if you do your Champions Mile betting online. In fact, our racing news section will feature the latest Champions Mile results as soon as they are available.
If you are looking to bet on this race, then think about checking out past results of the old Emirates Stakes. Contenders often return to compete in the Champions Mile more than once, as the race is open to any thoroughbred over the age of three, so you can occasionally bet on runners who have previously won. Also, look into the history that specific jockeys and trainers have had with the Champions Mile, as horse racing professionals often have ‘signature events’ in which they tend to do very well.
Punters need to look back to Seascay (1994-95) to find the past back-to-back Champions Mile winner, the event then run as the Emirates Stakes.
Kennedy Cantala / Champions Mile Winners
Kennedy Cantala / Champions Mile winners often go on to do well in other prestigious horse racing fixtures. Divine Madonna, winner of the 2006 Emirates Stakes, went on to win three more Group 1 races with success in the Queen of the Turf Stakes, the Toorak Handicap and the Myer Classic, all in 2007. Another legend of the event formerly run as the Emirates Stakes is Shaftsbury Avenue, who dominated the Australian Group 1 circuit during the early ‘90s.
Betting on a Champions Mile winner in a later race might give you a good chance of winning or placing, so doing a little research can never hurt. Although a previous win is no guarantee for a good performance, it is always good to know your selection has a reputation as a strong contender.
Recent Kennedy Cantala / Champions Mile Results
Up until 2015 this race was run as the Emirates Stakes. The event was renamed from the Kennedy Mile to the Kennedy Cantala and then eventually changed to the Champions Mile ahead of the 2022 edition, which was won by the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Alligator Blood.

Race comments
Fantastic race. FANGIRL (10) is interesting. She struggled off the hot tempo set by PRIDE OF JENNI last time out but hits this race fourth-up and fresher than most. She was given far too much to do when fourth in this race last year, and there's a chance she gets a more comfortable tempo to show her turn of foot this time. MR BRIGHTSIDE (1) has had five runs this time in and continues to front up and run well. 1600m suits, it's just whether he's over the top. PRIDE OF JENNI (9) loses regular rider Declan Bates who has managed her very well. It'll be interesting to see how fast Melham goes in front. She's had some tough runs of late and could be needing a break, but she's hard to write off because she's outstanding when on. ANTINO (4) was enormous in the Toorak and does relish the 1600m. One for the multiples.
