A final field of 14 mares are left in the mix for this year’s edition of the $200,000 Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) after the early scratching of the Nigel Blackiston-trained Amarela who was drawn the rails.

Leading a wide open Blazer Stakes markets at Ladbrokes.com.au this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is Oliver’s Rock Of Gibraltar five-year-old Jessy Belle who comes off a nice third when only beaten three quarters of a length by the winner Politeness in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at her home Caulfield track on September 19.

Winner of back-to-back Flemington races during the winter over 1400m, Jessy Belle is set to appreciate the extra metres this weekend over a distance she boasts a solid record over (7-3-2-0).

Along with Jessy Belle there are five other single figure fancies in the Blazer Stakes odds this weekend including co-$6 second elects Hazard and Atlantis Dream both drawn wide in gates 14 and 12 respectively.

The Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Flying Spur six-year-old Hazard was runner-up in the Cockram Stakes two back before a seventh in the How Now when still only beaten one and a half lengths from another wide gate (14 of 14).

She’s yet to finish in the money at Flemington where she runs this weekend but has Group 2 winning form in Brisbane from the winter having taken out the Dane Ripper over 1350m defeating Catkins in early June.

Atlantis Dream is trained by Cranbourne’s Darren Weir, the Elusive City seven-year-old also a Group 2 winner having taken out Adelaide’s Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) over the Morphettville mile on May 2 before her first-up fifth in the How Now when only beaten 1.1 lengths as a 31/1 outsider.

Rounding out the hopes under $10 for the Blazer Stakes win this Sunday are the Lee & Shannon Hope-trained Cockram Stakes winner Madam Gangster ($7) out to atone for her failed 15th in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 12, the lightly-raced Team Hawkes-trained Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Satya ($7) having just her fourth career start on the back of a close sixth in the How Now and Tycoon Tara ($8) after her first win since the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) back in late February.
