$1.2 million Group 2 The Q22 (2200m) is a key feature race held on Stradbroke Handicap Day during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
It replaced the now defunct Eagle Farm Cup / PJ O’Shea Stakes. For the history of that race please click here.
The first official running of the revamped The Q22 race took place in 2021 and was won by odds-on favourite Zaaki. Zaaki went on to frank the form out of the inaugural The Q22 winning the Underwood Stakes – Mackinnon Stakes double that spring, and the $5 million The All-Star Mile (1600m) the following autumn in 2022.
In 2022 trainer Annabel Neasham enjoyed back-to-back The Q22 wins with Numerian scoring an upset at 20/1.
The Q22 is a 2200m staying race taking place at Eagle Farm Racecourse in mid June on Straddie Day. The meeting is host to two elite level races with The Q22 the key support act to the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) and the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m).
Worth a lucrative $1.2 million in prize money, The Q22 is contested at weight-for-age and is part of the reinvented Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
Previously the Group 1 Queensland Derby was also run on Stradbroke Handicap Day, but that 2400m feature now runs a fortnight earlier allowing the three-year-old stayers out of the Derby to also target the The Q22.
The Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) is the key lead-up into The Q22 field and Zaaki (2021) is the last horse to do the double.
The 2023 The Q22 form was firmly franked with the winner, Without A Fight, returning in the spring to complete the coveted Caulfield Cup – Melbourne Cup race double.
Annabel Neasham secured her third win in four years in the 2024 The Q22 with Fawkner Park saluting for the stable by nearly four lengths.
The 2024 The Q22 ran on Saturday June 15th, 2024 as part of the Stradbroke Handicap Day line-up at Eagle Farm and was won by Annabel Neasham’s well-backed favourite, the Spring Cups-bound Fawkner Park ($4.20F).

2024 The Q22 Tips
Stay tuned for our insider The Q22 2024 Tips for the $1.2 million showdown at Eagle Farm this winter.
- To Win: #15 Fawkner Park ($4.20 at time of publish) – BET NOW
In another competitive edition of The Q22, I’m staying loyal to the in-form favourite, Annabel Neasham’s Fawkner Park. The Zoffany five-year-old is riding a hot streak, having claimed the Wagga Cup two back before a close third-place finish, just a quarter-length behind stablemate Bois D’Argent, in the prestigious Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) last time out. The increased distance in The Q22 is ideal for this proven stayer, and the favourable draw from barrier three gives him a good chance to turn the tables on some rivals.
2024 The Q22 Field
The Q22 field attracts a number of winter stayers coming off a lead-up in a race like the Doomben Cup or Queensland Derby looking to finish their campaign with a big $1.2 million feature win.
The official 2024 The Q22 field will be released on Wednesday the 12th of June, 2024 and will be published in full below.
The Q22 2024 final field features a quality line-up of winter stayers including Bois D’Argent and Fawkner Park who ran first and third respectively in the Doomben Cup for trainer Annabel Neasham.

The Q22 History
The Q22 replaced the PJ O’Shea Stakes (formerly the Eagle Farm Cup) in 2021.
The race it replaced, the PJ O’Shea Stakes was run from 1947 – 2019, with no edition of either race held in 2020 due to COVID-19.
In 2021 the first official running of the new-look The Q22 (WFA) ran on Stradbroke Handicap Day and was won by last-start Doomben Cup champion Zaaki.
