The Tristarc Stakes is a quality Group 2 thoroughbred event held as part of the coveted Melbourne Spring Carnival on one of the most anticipated days of racing, Caulfield Cup Day. Taking place on a Saturday in mid to late October, Caulfield Cup Day features a host of Group races including the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m), Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m), Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m), and Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m).

The Tristarc Stakes is run over the sprint distance of 1400m by a solid field of mares under set weights plus penalties and is worth $300,000. It is a great middle-distance sprint for mares heading towards prestigious events including the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) on Victoria Derby Day or the Group 2 Matriach Stakes (2000m) on Mackinnon Stakes Day.
The set weights conditions that the race is run under ensures that the higher seeded females claim victory more often than not. In recent years the Tristarc Stakes has been a decent guide to the Empire Rose Stakes (formerly the Myer Classic).
Colette (2021) is the last mare to complete the Tristarc Stakes – Empire Rose Stakes double.
The 2022 Tristarc Stakes form was franked with the runner-up Palaisipan going on to win Brisbane’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara in the winter of 2023.

Open Tristarc market and Miss Aria looks a lovely price based on her excellent and consistent form this time in. Danny O’Brien’s four-year-old Zoustar mare has upside and was unlucky not to win the Group 3 Winx Stakes during the winter in Queensland on Heavy going. Any rain aids her chances here. Good lead-up with a Moonee Valley win carrying 57kg fresh before a second in the Group 2 Rose of Kingston. That race looks a perfect form line to follow into this and she was beaten by the barest of margins from a wide alley. Same weight, same hoop, better drawn and nice Caulfield record. Can win.

Each Caulfield Cup Day the Tristarc Stakes field attracts a quality line-up of mares coming off lead-up runs in races including Sydney’s Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), Flemington’s Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) a fortnight before or the Group 2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1400m) also open only to mares contested on Turnbull Stakes Day.
Wrote To Arataki (3rd in 2023) and Lady In Pink (7th in 2024) are the latest mares to come off a Rose Of Kingston Stakes run and win the Tristarc Stakes.

Canny Lass was the inaugural Tristarc Stakes winner when the race was first run in 1987. It began as a Listed race, reaching Group 3 status in 1994 and finally Group 2 status in 2005. SKYBIRD (4) clearly on top. She's been outstanding in two runs back, flying late to just miss Arkansaw Kid fresh before drawing the carpark, getting a mile back and charging into third at Flemington. Gets the switch to a soft gate here, if she can use it, she will be awfully hard to hold out. REVOLUTIONARY MISS (2) won the Flemington race, getting a nice run and scoring narrowly. No knocks on her. MISS ARIA (9) split the pair in the Blazer and ran on strongly from the back as well. She's very consistent and right up to winning this. QUINTESSA (1) can improve.
