  • 1st: No. 5 Oh Too Good ($2.70F)
  • 2nd: No. 2 Jennilala
  • 3rd: No. 13 Moonlight Circus

Winning Time: 1:38.70

Winning Margin: 1.25 lengths

Oh Too Good ($2.70F) delivered a fairytale win in the 2025 Catanach’s Jewellers Vase results, giving trainer Kevin Daffy his first Stakes success with his only horse in work. The six-year-old mare, affectionately known as Gigi, proved far too strong in the Group 3 feature over 1600m at Caulfield on Guineas Day. She enjoyed a perfect run in transit under Damian Lane, who made no mistake after a luckless ride in the previous race. From the box seat, Lane peeled her out at the top of the straight and she gradually wore down second-favourite Jennilala before pulling clear to win by 1.3 lengths.

Raced over 1600m, the Ladies’ Day Vase is open to mares aged four years and older. Run under set weights plus penalties, the Ladies’ Day Vase is an effective counter to Randwick’s Angst Stakes (1600m) in Sydney.

The Ladies’ Day Vase currently runs on Caulfield Guineas Day alongside races including the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), Group 1 Might And Power (2000m), and the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m).

The Ladies’ Day Vase is an exciting race with an important role in the Spring Racing Carnival and runs on the opening day of the wider Caulfield Cup Carnival.

Mares tend to target the Ladies’ Day Vase as part of an ongoing spring campaign. Because it falls in the middle of October, most of the horses that contend the Ladies’ Day Vase have already had several lead-up races, which makes it somewhat easier to judge form.

The Group 2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1400m) held at Flemington under similar conditions earlier in the month can act as a fairly good lead up race. Mares that perform well in the Ladies’ Day Vase might back-up in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) over the same distance at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

In 2019 the Ladies’ Day Vase winner Spanish Reef went on to run third in the Empire Rose Stakes results.

In 2023 the Ladies’ Day Vase winner Wishlor Lass won the Group 3 Tesio Stakes at The Valley next start franking the form out of the Guineas Day event.

The 2025 Ladies’ Day Vase ran on Saturday October 11, 2025 as the Catanach’s Jewellers Vase on Melbourne’s Caulfield Guineas Day card and was won in a strong late charge by the well supported favourite Oh Too Good ($2.70F).

  • Each Way: No. 3 Gala Queen ($11/$2.60 at time of publish) – BET NOW

With my original value pick MOLLY BLOOM scratched, I’m now tempted to take a value Each Way play for GALA QUEEN (1) who is drawn to get a dream run from the inside alley. Phillip Stokes’ four-year-old Deep Field mare may not have the best affinity for the Caulfield track (unplaced in three runs here) but she’s a genuine miler at her right distance in an open affair. She’s two from three at the 1600m including her nostril-flare win at HQ last time out carting plenty of weight (60.5kg). Back to 57kg so is pretty evenly weighted and has Luke Nolen coming aboard. Up in grade now but has form around some good types including her fourth here two back behind On Display over 1400m from the outside alley. Pet distance and the Good rated track gives her every chance to make the most of the draw, land midfield and finish over the top of them.

2025 Ladies’ Day Vase Field

The Ladies’ Day Vase field draws a quality line-up of mares with form over a mile. Good lead-up spring races mares may contest on way to the Ladies’ Day Vase field include the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley or Flemington’s Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) – now run as the Rose Of Kingston Stakes – earlier at the carnival. I Am A Star (2018) was the last mare to do the Stocks Stakes – Ladies’ Day Vase double.

The official Ladies’ Day Vase 2025 Final Field & Barriers are set for release the Wednesday leading-up to the race and will be published in full below once announced by Racing Victoria.

The 2025 Ladies’ Day Vase field features a strong line-up of middle-distance mares including Danny O’Brien’s last start Gold Nugget winner at Ballarat Sea What I See to be ridden by Craig Williams and Kevin Daffy’s well backed favourite Oh Too Good.

Ladies’ Day Vase History

Inaugurated in its current format in 2006, the Ladies’ Day Vase has a brief history in comparison to other events at Caulfield. The Ladies’ Day Vase has always been held at Caulfield Racecourse and will most likely remain the feature event of the middle day of the Caulfield Cup Carnival for some time to come.

The Ladies’ Day Vase provides an important opportunity for punters (and trainers) to see the participating mares perform in level company, in order to gauge their overall ability.

Originally a Listed race, the Ladies’ Day Vase was upgraded to Group 3 status in 2013. It was also referred to as the Snowhite Maintenance Classic for that year, and in the past as the carsales.com.au Classic and the Perri Cutten Classic.

Notable Ladies’ Day Vase winners include Gawne (2006), Lady Lynette (2009), Royal Commands (2010), and I Am A Star (2018).
