The Group 2 Macau Guineas is the first leg of the newly formed Triple Guineas for four-year-old thoroughbreds. Held at the Taipa Racecourse in March of each year, this 1500m event offers a prize purse of HK$800 000.
Horses that run in the Macau Guineas are then often aimed at the next two Triple Crown races, the Macau Derby and the Macau Gold Cup, both 1800m Group 1 races held at the same race track. It is a good tip to look at the placegetters in the Macau Guineas when wagering on these following races as many runners have performed consistently well in these events. For example, the 2009 Macau Guineas third place getter Golden Pistols followed up his success with an equal third place in the Macau Derby. So make sure you look at these horses when making your Place bets, as the proven experience on the track seems to work in favour of the runners.
