The iconic 2025 Magic Millions Race Day at the Gold Coast has been abandoned after race three due to heavy rainfall and deteriorating track conditions with the delayed events rescheduled for Friday evening next week.

The $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1100m), $500,000 Magic Millions Country Cup (1200m), and the $500,000 The Debut Plate (1000m) all went ahead early on the card with races one to three contested on a Heavy (9).

Events were subsequently delayed due to storms before the decision was made to call off the remainder of the card for the safety of the horses, jockeys, and everyone trackside for Queensland’s richest race day.

Ongoing storms off the coast and continued extreme weather conditions saw the Gold Coast track become unsuitable for racing.

It is the second time in three years a deluge of rain forced the Magic Millions Carnival to be called off.

“Unfortunately, we’re in an outdoor sport, and this is something we’ve had to deal with quite often here at Magic Millions,” jockey Tommy Berry, who was booked to ride O’ Ole for Bjorn Baker in the 2025 Magic Millions 2YO Classic, told the media.

“But with the option of racing under lights later in the week, we’re hopeful for a better outcome.”

The seven abandoned Magic Millions events on Saturday included the meeting’s three Restricted Listed features: the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m), and the $2 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m).

“The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday is an iconic national event, and will shine brightest on the national stage under lights on Friday,” Racing Queensland CEO Jason Scott said. “

The safety of our animals and participants is paramount, and unfortunately a heavy downpour following the third race has left the track unsuitable for racing.”

The Gold Coast will now host a huge evening under the lights on Friday featuring the Magic Millions races that could not go ahead at the original meeting.
