The Group 1 $1.5 million Thousand Guineas (1600m) on November 16 could be on the spring agenda for the nicely bred Too Darn Lizzie following her two-length romp home in the 2024 Thousand Guineas Prelude results on Caulfield Cup Day.
The daughter of Too Darn Hot continued the stakes wins for her sire following on from Too Darn Discreet winning the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes earlier in the day.
The progressive Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly showed lovely improvement third-up and fit relishing the give out of the ground on the Soft (7) Caulfield track.
She came via a lead-up third in a stakes race over the same course and distance but was first past the post today off a good front-running ride by Tim Clark and couldn’t be run down.
“Two darn fast, exactly!” co-trainer Gai Waterhouse told Racing.com.
“Of course she’s by this amazing sire, Two Darn Hot, that’s doing it both in north and south.
And of course, it was bought by Simon Marsh and Johnny McKee before, Andrew Lloyd Webber and his wife Madeline. It’s so wonderful that they’re supporting Australian racing. I’m just thrilled.”
No filly has completed the Thousand Guineas Prelude – Thousand Guineas double since Irish Lights (2009) but the stable are confident Too Darn Lizzie could be the next.
“She’s just settled down more, as the longer she’s been in Melbourne,” Waterhouse said.
“We brought her here on Tuesday, and I just love the way she finished off her work.
“I didn’t put a jockey on her, I just put the work rider on, who just gets on with her.
“She did everything right. I love it when they tick all the boxes going into a big race.
“(The Thousand Guineas) that’s what we’re here for.
“I think she’ s training very well. I think we could easily run over the Flemington carnival.”
All-in 2024 Thousand Guineas odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have Too Darn Lizzie at $11.

Race comments
Wide open affair. Quite a few come through the Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley, and of those, MATISSE (5) makes the most appeal. She was only first-up there whereas her rivals were fitter and she hit the line nicely for fifth, beaten under three lengths. She'll relish 1400m now and looks a good each way hope. GEEGEES MISTRUTH (3) has been rock solid in two runs in Melbourne, just finding one better each time. Tried hard in the Champagne and that form has stood up well through Bellatrix Star. Tricky draw but will take beating. ZEITUNG (6) was fastest home in the Champagne from a hopeless spot and ran very well. Will be hard to hold out. AMEENA (1) was just fair in the G2 Tea Rose but her prior form stacks up well against these. TOO DARN LIZZIE (4) could give a sight.
